Over this spring and summer we have been lucky enough to photograph a variety of waterbirds during our visits to the lagoons of the Northern Tablelands of New England. The first selection was taken by Mark using his Nikon D3000 + 70-300 Tamron lens (nos 1 & 4) and his Canon SX30 IS (2&3)

Very nice series of different water birds. My top picks are 4, 5, 7 and 8. My top pick is #7, love the way the wood creates a triangle frame around the bird. Thanks for sharing.

Nice series Bernice. You got up close and personal with the egret #5... lol

Thank you jjdog and banksy. I am slowly getting through the 'fruits' of our weekend camera-packing activities. It's fun looking back through the shots and coming acros pics that were better than you first thought. Some of the above are in that category.

jjdog - that's my husband's favourite, too.

Banksy - you wouldn't believe how far away that egret was. the TCON-17 certainly makes a difference.

Glad you liked our photos.

Thanks so much for sharing these fine images of waterbirds from your part of the world. Amazing diversity, and nicely captured too! I really like the light on #8...

Mole! How nice of you to drop by. Thank you for your comments. Yes, #8 came out well against the clear blue sky - we've had an over-abundance of overcast days so it was a pleasure to be out at the Lagoon on a sunny afternoon.

PS: Interesting ... according to 'Birds in Backyards' which has an affiliation with the Australian Museum (and can be accessed at the Darter (#1 & #2) has been reclassified. "The Australian species should now be known as the Australasian Darter, [Anhinga novaehollandiae]."

Oh well ... a darter is a darter is ......

A great collection of shorebirds. I especially like 7 and 8 as they are two that I've not seen before.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you zig - glad to be able to offer you something different. I've been viewing your Tigertail photos - awesome!

Appreciate your comments
