Saly wrote exactly what I was thinking!

Shame the close side of the bird is a bit underexposed, but tricky lighting.. plus the sidelit idea isn't that bad.

yeah i'm still on the steep part of my photography learning curve, I think my good pictures are a product of 50% subject/40% camera tech/10% my proficiency. Instances where my contribution needs to be higher tend to be missed opportunities. Exposure is my weakest link, although I kind of like the effect in this instance (definately didn't do it on purpose though)
I'm still enjoying my mistakes though, I think that is the secret of really enjoying something as a hobby. It's still painful though when my subject flys off while i'm trying to figure out something. I've missed so many pics because I forgot to reset my iso after changing it
