Default Happy limpkin family

A couple of moths ago we took a trip to Myakka river state park and got a rare glimpse of this happy family.

Here is a link with some information on these birds http://creagrus.home.montereybay.com/limpkin.html

Here is big daddy bird.

Pretty soon mom and the little one came out of the reeds.

Mom went for a walk, you can see in the background the little fuzzy one.

The little fuzzy one has to follow mom.

Their favorite meal.

Thanks for joining me on the nature hike.
Cheers.

Thanks for sharing the hike, nice shots. What is the favorite meal, some type of snail?

JJ, apparently great minds think alike. lol I did some research and found that the snail is probably an Apple snail, the favorite meal for a Limpkin.

Limpkin

They are so precious!! The baby in #3 is so cute. They all have very sweet faces compared to many other similar birds which tend to have mean faces. I hope the little one grows up safely.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, that is an apple snail. That link I posted mentions that the tips of their bill gets slightly curved from poking in the shell. They are a very unique bird.
