Default Butterfly ID

Here's a crop from a pic I took last week in Northern WI. It's driving me nuts that I can't ID this properly and I admire the beautiful "insect" photos so many of you take so I thought maybe you could help. I think it's a Comma, but I'm lost between Eastern, Gray, Saytr or another kind.

I've been into IDing birds for a few years, but now the butterfly/dragonfly addiction has started (sigh).

TIA.

Laurie

I believe this butterfly is a Gray Comma, Polygonia progne - nice shot. When it's wings are closed the very different pattern on the underside resembles a dead leaf.

Thanks, Penolta. That's what I'll go with. From some of the research I've been doing, it looks like the Gray has two black spots on the hindwing versus the three some of the others have.
