Default Ptarmigan

These birds are very well camouflaged in the mountains of Colorado. This one is on Mt Elbert at an altitude of about 14,000 feet (~4300m). As it gets later in the summer--and closer to winter--they become completely white. (Taken with Canon 7D and Canon 70-300mm F4-5.6L

very well camouflaged, I would have probably missed it.

Yes, unless they're moving, they're almost impossible to spot.
