Default Smiling Bear Cub

Smiling Cub by Mugmar, on Flickr

This little cub was orphaned by it's mother recently for some reason. It is believed to be about 2 years old. He seems to be doing OK on his own, but the park rangers and wildlife management are keeping a close eye just to be sure.

PLEASE READ: All my wildlife pictures were taken using a large telephoto lens, keeping a safe distance between the subject and myself. At no time did I disturb the animal. I always respect all wildlife whether it is a bear or a chipmunk. I would rather miss a shot than take a chance at harming or disturbing an animal.

As it should be. Well done.

Terrific shot, and I salute your respect for nature. I hope the little guy makes it!

Great photo, and great reminder about not disturbing wildlife!

Rangers in the Smokies recently had to euthanize a Black Bear - problem caused by over-eager photographer...

thanks for all the comments everyone. Since the incident last year, (thanks for the link Mole) the park service has put up signs all over the park to try and educate folks on not getting close to the bears. Even with these signs and a much more visible Ranger presence, it's amazing how many people still think it's OK to get close to the bears and other wildlife.
