Default Wetland Variety

It was a gorgeous Northern California winter day. So, off to the refuge I went.

Here is a link to the rest of the days shots. Too many to post all of them in this thread.

I saw this Ring-necked Pheasant duck into the reeds so I tried waiting him out. He won. We did have a staring contest for about 20 minutes before I gave up.

Eurasian Wigeon, which is fairly rare, but a regular visitor here on the west coast.

An adult and a juvenile Snow goose landing to join the flock and rest.
The yellow spotting on the breast is from soil stains they get while out in the rice fields feeding over night. They have learned that if they wait until about 45 minutes after sunset they can leave the refuge, fly out into the rice fields and avoid the hunters, who legally have to stop hunting 30 minutes after sunset. The geese then return about 45 minutes before sunrise, because the hunters can't legally start hunting until 30 minutes before sunrise.

Smart birds!

That first shot of the pintail is really nice, I also love the moon image. Nice job, as always.
