Default Falcated Duck- extreamly rare for Calif. is Back

Well it looks like the Falcated duck ( he is so name for the falcated, sickle shaped feathers, at the base of the wing) spotted last year at the Colusa National Wildlife Refuge is back for another season. It was spotted Dec 3 by refuge manager Mike Peters.
I went down yesterday to try and get some shots. I arrived at the platform around noon and there he was. He was following the Am. Wigeon and displaying to try and impressed the females. Here are a couple of shots from that outing.
Thanks for looking and commenting,
Steve

If anyone is interested in more pics, here is my effort from last winter. Cheers,

Excellent series of a handsome bird. You must be proud to have not only seen it, but to get such good shots of it. I have never seen one; and you have to wonder how a duck from eastern Asia made it all the way to California.

Thank you for the looks and feedback.

Steven, even more amazing than the fact that it found it's way from Asia to Calif. is that it landed in a pond right in front of a viewing platform were thousands of bird lovers could so easily view and photograph it. ........ 2 years in a row.

What are the odds?

Great find. Makes ya wonder if it defected from Asia, and got a bird Visa to live here in the states

Wonderful photo. I have a question though...are the 'falcated' feathers a genetic abnormality or ?
