Default Bison

Got some pics of bison that are brought in each year to help with a prairie restoration project on the east edge of the Twin Cities area. The bison's hoofs help aerate the soil, their coat spread seeds around the project and their grazing keeps plant growth down, without damaging the plants. The bison only graze on the top parts of the plants.

This big guy is the bull of the heard.

A couple of cows stopped to take a look at the crowd after getting off the truck. They then ran to the far end of the prairie, away from the people.

In all 35 bison were brought in yesterday. I was told they'll have over 100 there for the summer. It the fall it's back to the main herd in Wisconsin.
