Default Sandhill Crans

A number of Sandhill Cranes are starting to gather at Crex Meadows, near Grantsburg, WI. Home to nearly 800 nesting pairs, fall brings an expected 12,000 Cranes to the refuge. They feed in the wetlands and surrounding farm fields, storing up for their migration to Southern Georga and Northern Florida.

This pair appeared to be having a conversation as everone else around them were feeding.

Keeping watch over "Mom" and "The Kid".

Pentax Kx, Sigma 150-500 mm

Excellent shots on back-lighted subjects! I like #1 the best and #2 is not either.

Thanks for the comments. Looking forward to Oct. when there will be about 12 thousand Sandhills getting fattened up for migration.
