Default Downy Woodpecker

I have pretty lucky lately with Woodpeckers. This is a male Downy Woodpecker taken a block from my house.

You can say that again about the cloudy skies and the rain we have been getting in the last couple of weeks. I shouldn't be complaining though because we are in a bad drought out here. I am glad that I was able to make the shots which I hadn't been able to do in the past. Springtime is great for birding, there is a lot of activities up on the trees.

Springtime is the perfect time, if the weather is decent. Like you say, lots of activity but no leafs on the trees to obscure it. Nice pics of one our favorite birds, Downies are just cute little guys and unlike some of the the other species seem quite willing to share and take turns at the feeders. We are lucky enough to have at least one breeding pair on our property.

Thanks, John! I will consider your suggestion about setting up a feeder after I come back from China.
