Default kingfisher

this little lady was sitting on a concrete seawall next to a local marina on Saturday... i stopped about 60 feet away and got a couple of shots, then moved closer, about 40 feet, and got a couple of nice close shots. so unusual for a kingfisher to allow people that close, but she was intent on watching the water below. i had time for about 4 shots before she flew off... 600mm, 1/1000 @ f/11

I am looking at this picture and wondering how did you get so lucky to get in this close. Wonderful shot!

thanks, WCKSer! apparently this bird is a fairly frequent visitor to the marina, and it's perhaps a bit more accustomed to people than most... it's still a bit skittish, but not nearly as much so as kingfishers in truly wild areas. it probably also helped that it was utterly intent on watching the water below, and simply didn't notice how close i was for a few moments...
