Default an afternoon with some Caspian terns (6)

went to the local marina this afternoon to shoot the Caspian terns i'd heard were plentiful there... they were indeed, and as the tide came in, they engaged in a 2-hour fishing frenzy, clearly visible from the marina parking lot. i got over 200 photos - obviously not all keepers, but enough that i needed to create a new folder in my archives just for the terns... here are a few, all with 7DII and 150-600, various settings...

Nice series, Rocky! Caspian Terns are big in comparison to the other species. Their flying patterns are not as erratic as the other ones making them a pleasure to photograph. Unfortunately, I have not seen one lately.

yeah, they're the largest terns in North America.. i still haven't been able to truly capture that exact moment when they hit the water, though #5 above is pretty darn close...

Not even a splash on entry. Impressive. And leaves with lunch.
