Default sculpin sushi

this double-crested cormorant caught itself a sculpin - the kind we always called "bullheads" when i was a kid - and spent a good 5 minutes flipping it around trying to get it positioned just right for the Big Gulp...

Great series, Rocky. Sculpins are pretty homely fish. Sort of glad there's one less of 'em.

with those fins I'd guess gulping it down the wrong way could be painful if not dangerous

yes indeed! they have stiff spines that would make mincemeat out of the cormorant's gullet if it went down the wrong way!
