Eric, I agree now that this is an American Avocet. I also agree that it's a bit blurred. I was so excited when I rose over the grassy hill and spotted this beautiful colored bird that I couldn't keep my hands as steady as I wished, and he only allowed me a few shots (drat). I'd seena photo of this verybirdthe day before on the front cover of one of the bird books I've been looking through; I was impressed by it's coloration and theupcurve of it's beak (if beak is the correct word)...thenthere it was, right in front of me. I'm happy that I even got it in the frame.

Thanks for helping me out in the identification area.
