That is wacky. What are they on? It's hard to tell with that style light.

I just knew you'd show up for this one, Vito!:-)

The wasps were disinterred from the wasp graveyard on the back porch--thanks to my son whose idea all of this was. As a matter of fact, I can't lay claim to this picture at all. He conceived of it, he arranged it, he lit it. All I did was push the button on the cable release whenever he said I should. I did, however, supply the polyester fiberfill for the wasps to sit on plus various types of flashlights. This particular photo was taken with a small Maglite flashlight tucked slightly beneath the edge of the fiberfill. We have about 40 photos with the wasps, one little series being called "Wasp Wedding" where it looks as if one wasp stands over two others, guiding them in their vows. My son has a funny, quirky mind.

Whoops! Forgot one very important thing: I put surgical gauze over the lens to create the "mist."

Now that I've allowed my son near the camera, I thinka new monster has been created, a two-headed kind because both he and I love the opposite of landscapes--innerscapes--and we've always made up and told each other strange stories about places beyond both the dark and the light.

wow! great idea! i love that effect....wat is it? just gauze? or is it special "surgical" gauze? i'm gonna have to try that!

did you by any chance use that effect on your pearl and turtle white on white post back....way back in the beginning of the weekly challenge?

i think that effect with a dale lighting would be a spectacular photo!! i'm gonna have to play now

make it look misty and foggy....

The only reason I called it "surgical" gauze is because that's what it happened to be, but plain old gauze is fine. Other things to try are stockings (ask your mom first:-)), translucent curtain material, and fine-mesh window screening or a spatter screen (used to cover frying pans so the fat doesn't explode all over the place).

Nope. Didn't use it in the turtle photo. Would have if I'd thought of it, though.
