Not the best picture, but this is a nest I found on the underside of a ourdoor grill cover. I used a 50mm Macro lens on a 35mm camera without a tripod. The big surprise came when the flash fired and a wasp from a nest I didn't see under thegrill gratingcame up and tagged me on the wrist.

That is a cool picture!

Worth taking a little sting I imagine.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks to both of you. You're right, I didn't mind the sting. I actually was expecting worse, but it was just the one that came after me. I took some other pictures later on when there were more of them, but they didn't seem to mind as much.

Here's another picture I found that I took of the same nest a little while later. Same camera / lens, handheld.

There's just a few more! :shock:Fortunately, I didn't get stung this time.

Very cool pictures.

I know it's just me but I can't help but get the heebie-jeebies when I look at these photos. I don't think that I'll be getting that close to those stinging thingies (a respect ingrained from when I was a child extremely allergic to the venom of all sorts of stinging insects). So, photo_mage, I'll just marvel at your photos... :-)

My friend had exactly the same reaction. I guess bees and such don't really bother me that much. Actually I was more afraid when I found a snapping turtle at the park and got on the ground for a close-up. Luckily again, he seemed content to let me take his picture.
