I've always liked marmots, and these two Yellow-bellied Marmots were as curious of me as I was of them. I ran across this adult and juvenile in a small, isolated jumble of rocks within an aspen and spruce/fir forest in the Grand Mesa National Forest today.

The loud and piercing "peek" call of marmots can be startling if heard up close. This gal might be warning other unseen youngsters of a potential threat (the fellow with the camera).

We've been getting so many bird photos (which I love and don't want to see stop) that it's very refreshing to see other wildlife. These are pretty neat shots of marmots! Thanks, Hummer.

Do you ever get up high enough to hear and see pikas? I find pikas interesting because their biology and habits are so different from alot of other small mammals of its type. For example, marmots hibernate in winter but pikas are active all winter under the snow.

Cool pic.

I really like the pose and the lighting in the first shot. That mama is a big mama.

Hummer, you are showing us the forte' of that FZ10. That second one, with the kid, needs to go to the "funny photos" section. It's a beaut!

If you can't figure out a caption for that string, then give me the honor of trying one out. Let me know. Excellent photography Hummer!
