I agree, bobbyz. The second shot is less cluttered in the background. This bird has been tough to catch and anytime I can get close enough I've got to grab the opportunity.

Shutter speed Geoff ? Coz at 12 feet , I would expect this to be a tad sharper. Was it handheld, and what shutter ?

Cheers

Eric, the shutter speed on the second shot was 1/320. I too expected the bird to be sharper. All I can say is that I believe there are two factors associated with the sharpness not being what it should be:

1. I have continual problems with my camera when it comes to focusing. Manual focus is worthless on my camera and AF, in my experience, doesn't always focus on what you believe it should be focusing on. The focusing issue is one of the things that is making me very disenchanted with it.

2. I had to use NeatImage on this shot because the sky had more noise in it than I would have expected from having used ISO 50. Perhaps NeatImage "softened" the bird too much.

That last one isvery successful to mefor a number of reasons:

1. Angle of shooting

2. Clean background

3. Sharpness, pose, eye clarity.

Great capture Geoff.
