There's a pair of song sparrows that hang out in my backyard and my neighbor's backyard. I know they have a nest somewhere but I haven't found it yet. They are also tough as nails to get close enough to image decently with my 140mm max focal length gear. Nevertheless, today I was able to sneak up on them to get the twoshots below (the best of the bunch).

I prefer the 2nd one Geoff, very nice indeed. There's no obstuction with a nice background. How far was this taken ?

Cheers

Eric, I was about 5-6 feet away from the sparrow on the second shot and both the bird and I were shaded. That's why it came out so well.

For the first shot I was about 12 feet away which is really too far for my 140mm for such a small bird. The sun was also lighting the scene very harshly.

Nice job geoffs,

Isn't it fun when you can get that close. My favorite is the first one, I like the colorful background.

Hmmm............Has it's mouth open! Looks kind of fake.I think I saw one like this in a garden magazine, It has photo cells in it's back and sings when the sun shines on it. Perhaps you saw it it is on the page opposite the Blue Herron that they sell to decorate your backyard pond.

Hawkeyes, you're really adding to the noise on this board. Even when someone apologizes (as I did in your thread) you don't have enough social grace to accept the apology and let sleeping dogs rest.

From now on, unless you can interact in a meaningful manner, you'll be on my ignore list.

And by the way - there were others on your thread (Normcar) that never denigrated your photos and complimented you on them. You could at least have thanked them.

Geoffs, I also like the second shot. Less stuff in the background helps IMHO.
