I dont know what kind of bird this is but he is a little busy body. This was taken leaning out of my car window free hand so not the best shots. I think he is cute though. Have no Idea what he was looking for.:-)

That is a neat looking bird, Julie. He was probably looking for food (don't they almost always?).

I think it's time for you to invest in a bird field guide for your area...

Another thought, the ground this guy is on looks pretty sandy/gravelly. Birds have gizzards that they must keep filled with sand and/or gravel. When they eat food, it passes through the gizzard and is ground up in the gizzard during the time it takes for the food to pass through. So, perhaps this bird was on a mission to fill its gizzard with grinding material...

I like the first one especially as it shows off the neat shape of the head and coloration. You sure have neat looking bird in Australia.
