Not sure but looks like a young Green Heron. He was very illusive. I just stood there watching him. I could have got closer to avoid grass in way but that would have spooked him. Lucky to get some shots. My first time with these guys.

I think you were able to get close enough to get great detail of this heron, bobbyz - it's a terrific shot. It does seem to be a juvenile Green Heron. The juveniles tend to resemble bitterns but the differences are apparent in this closeup (see field guide for detail of differences).

Very nice shot. Great color and detail. Must be nice to get close to a heron!

Naa, I was just walking by and saw something move in the tall grass. So I just stopped and saw this heron come out. I stood there for 10-15mins taking shots and then moved on to let him continue with his feeding.

Great photo bobby. Those are nifty looking birds with a mug that makes you want to give them a big hug.

I'm not sure about the big hug - perhaps a quick peck on the cheek will do? :-)

Hey Norm, good to see you back and participating. Where have you been?

I've been, and still am, off travelling about. I just found a place to go online for a bit so I'm taking advantage. Nice to see some of the new stuff, especially Eric's "macro" photos. Pretty fine!
