I just love this one. This baltimore oriole build a normal nest for awhile, weaving straw and other things into a hanging "sack" style nest. Oriole's like to nest near water, and this pond is popular with fishermen. One day, the oriole started to use fishing twine in the nest. And it kept right on going.

I guess it worked well, as the oriole raised two young that way (I didn't get back in time to see the little heads sticking out of the nest.)

You don't often see rear view bird photography (at least I haven't) but it works really well here. Nice and sharp capture, great colors, great BG bokeh, and I love how the shot shows so well how the bird likes to use oak trees for its nesting.

Birds are opportunists when it comes to gathering items to use in building their nests. I bet that fishing line was a prized find! :-)

Nope, it's an oak tree.

Sorry about the picture disappearing; my web site wasn't copied over to the new server... but it looks like it's back now.

Thanks for the kind words. I think its a funky nest too.
Normally their nest deteriorate(sp?) over the year so they build a new one each time. I wonder what will happen with this one! I plan on watching it over the winter.

So, is anyone else seeing a picture in psychodelic(sp?) colors? Looks like the move to a differen server corrupted things a bit.

No psychodelic picture on my end, Eric - it looks just like when you first posted it...
