Nice shot, although it could stand a little sharpening. Was this taken in a zoo or did you actually find it in the wild? The only frogmouth I've ever seen was at the Bronx Zoo in NYC.

That was taken in a wildlife reserve, basically a natural habitat zoo.

I've tried sharpening but didn't get great results so I just posted the original...

I love these birds, they blend in with the bush and you cant see them as I found out when I was a kid and had the living daylights scared outa me:-)

we always called them MO Pokes.

nice shot.

That's funny, Julie! They are eerie looking, aren't they?

When I saw a pair of them in the Bronx Zoo in NYC, the display they were in was supposed to mimic their natural habitat. It probably took me 5 minutes of looking around carefully before I actually noticed the pair of them 3 feet in front of my eyes!

I was five years old when on a trip down to my uncles farm when the "call of nature" called me I guess. My father stopped the car and told me to go off into the roadside bush. My parents still laugh to this day when they tell the story of me running out of the bush screaming the the log I gone behind, "came alive":-)Mum and Dad took a photo, there where three of these birds and I had not even seen them.
