Nice picture. I agree with you, I think the red back ground really adds to the black and white bird.

It is amazing what a little unsharp mask and reduce brightness a tad and increase contrast a tad will do to an almost just right picture.

Just a suggestion, you might want to take a look at cropping some more of the right side out. It will make for better composition and reduce some of the white color in the background. Just an idea.

I'm inclined to agree, zoomn, not all of the white needs to be there and the bird is pointed in the right direction to allow for a little bit of clipping on the right side. And it would even get rid of the rot on the end of that leaf.
