Please excuse my ignorance on this subject as I don't really know about dSLR's or their lenses, but could Julie add a teleconverter to the end of her 90-300?

You could but:

1. The teleconverter on a dSLR goes between the lens and the body and not at the end of the lens!

2. Most 70-300 that were mentioned are not the sharpest lens around couple with a non dedicated 2x will not produce the best result - The 2x Canon (or the dedicated Sigma) would not fit the 70-300...

3. A 2x will also double the aperture from f/5.6 to f/11 which will limit the shoots to sunny days or high ISO, and again the need for that tripod

Thanks for the clarification NHL, just trying out ideas, like I said about me being ignorant in dslr's, I didn't know the TC's went between the body and the larger lens. Thanks, learned something today!
