Hi
I just moved from Scotland to the US (Seattle). I also got rid of my G3 and bought a brand new Nikon D70 with some nice lenses! I've mostly been testing it out and getting used to it but tonight I saw quite an unusal sight (unusual to me anyway!). The bald eagle was dive bombing the poor little coots, I guess looking for ones small enough to eat? Has anyone seen anything like this before. Good thing I had my new D70 with 80-200mm lens with me!

Regards

Martin.

Hi Martin;

A great shot, and nicely cropped.

Good job.

Regards,

Tom, on Point Pelee, Canada

If an eagle gets really desparate they will eat something other than fish. But its main diet is fish. I've seen rapters go after things that they really should have known they won't catch. I don't know if they are just hoping for a little luck (catch a sick one?), or if they are practicing, or if they are just having fun.

But all things being equal an eagle would rather eat fish than anything else.

Awesome, mpaul73...on your move and your new D70.

Lotsa eagles in the Northwest.

Be sure and check out Skagit River (near Sedro Wooley, WA) in January-February.

Hundreds of eagles congregate there.

They offer raft trips for photogs too

If you like to hike, I can recommend an awesome hike near Seattle but will not post it here.

It is toooooooo special to be put in a public forum

Strange...you usually see small birds mobbing the big raptors! Maybe he is after the big muskie that is coming up to gobble up a coot!!!!!!! Interesting shot.

I have had a hard time getting anything decent in the way of photos from our bald flying friends. Whenever there's any nagging going on in the air when I've been around, it's always been the big guy getting harrassed by the little guys. Shoes on the other foot here. Good shot! (I love your Scottish accent!) Best regards,

KennethD
