These birds can actually "fly" under water fast enough to catch juvenile salmon. They are here all winter and can be quite comical as they run across the water's surface to get up enough speed to take off. This pair was about 450 yards away, in the fog.

Lovely atmospheric shot !

These birds are not well-loved by fishermen on our Norfolk Broads. I understand they have a reputation for greed !

I always love to see them in the sun with their wings held up trying to dry.
