Here are a few more from today's cold exursion. I used a golf club cover (with hole cut away) for my lens and it worked great.

Awesome, Norm!

Pictures 2 and 4 aren't too shabby all by themselves, but 1 and 3 are outstanding.I love the eye detail in #3 and could it be that I can actually see the reflection of you in the chickadee's eye? My favorite has to be #1 - I love chickadees but I love woodpeckers even more and you got a great shot of this one!

Were these taken with your 200/2.8? ...with a TC? If so, did you actually stalk so you could get as close as it seems you had to be for these shots?

And how cold was it?

Please to explain the purpose?

Peter, this was to keep the lens warm so it wouldn't experience a radical temperature change, thus condensation. I also kept everything in an insulated picnic bag in order to suppress a radical temperature change.

So this is the life of a cold weather photog.

Which brings me to alady...

It's not the white that I hate, it's the cold that comes with it, something like the curse that comes with a good holiday feeding, the food is great but what happens to the body isn't so great.

It'sfar farbelow freezing here right now and after tomorrow it's just gonna get worse. Sadly, there doesn't appear to be an end in sight so my little golf club lens warmer is going to be busy.Happy holiday.

No, alady, you're better off where you are.

Geoff, photos were taken with my 135/2 + 1.4x extender in order for me to be able to focus up real close. This combination affords me an almost macro ability for shots like with the CU of the chickadee face. I was about 3 feet away and that indeed does appear to be me in the chicks eye, all bundled up in my hood and leather coat. Didn't really notice until you pointed it out.

Excellent, I will have to give this a try. Just need to find a good golf club cover :GOnly ones I can find around here are eitheraplasticky fake leather or knit wool. I'm not sure the owner would want me cutting a hole in them either.

Here's a visual of my little invention. Don't try this at home, it could be dangerous, especially if you are cutting up someone else's golf club cover:

PATENT PENDING :-) (under the fuzz sits a 135/2 L and 1.4x extender; perfect fit)
