Yes, even birds have to work the kinks out of their skeletal and muscular systems. In this case, it's a mallard drake...

First one - in full stretch - Canon 20D, 1/200 @ f/5.6, 300/4L IS with 1.4xTC (420mm), ISO 800, -1/3 EC, cropped, curves, USM:

Second one- now that feels better! Parameters as in first shot:

very nice work geoff!

the first one is great, sharp where it should be, and the blur of the wings is great!

nice comp too :)

the second is very nice too, but the wings aren't as spread...

nice geoff!

Great job again, Geoff. Even the drake appears pleased with your performance.

Actually, it was me applauding his performance. I get the kudos for the photos and he comes out with nothing to show for it. Perhaps I'll bring him some grain the next time I go visit... ;)

Nice color balance in the shots. I like the tippy toes stance in the first picture. Was it a sunny day or cloudy like it's been down here in Unsunny California? Forget the grain. I think a PBJ sandwhich might yield more humors results. Just kidding.

For being so common, Mallard sure have pretty colors.

Thanks, smac. It's been cloudy most days, just as it was on the day I took these pictures. Today is partly sunny and I'll try and go out and get some more shots later this afternoon.

BTW geoffs, I was able to find a Mac demo version of NeatImage and I am playing around with it. I will probably go ahead and buy the full Plugin. Thanks for all the help.

Hey, smac, I'm glad I could point you in a useful direction. NeatImage is a useful, often indispensable, tool for many digital images. You'll appreciate it.
