Nice shots Geoff. Are you having fun yet.

I don't know if your lens is the same as mine but I can use manual and auto focus at the same time. If I have the shutter half down I can reach up and turn the manual ring and it will fine tune the focus. Works great on birds in the bush. Give it a try.

All nice pics. The short depth of field makes it tough to get the whole bird in focus on these close shots. On the jay it appears the lower part of the back is the point of clearest focus and the tail and head are slightly out. Still an excellent shot.

All of these are just great to me Geoffs and that is the first Scrub Jay I've ever seen. That is one beautiful bird.

Thanks for all the great comments!

Houston, all jays I know of are pretty nicely colored and patterned (Gray Jay is probably the most nondescript but doesn't occur down where you live). They are really intelligent birds and quite willing to be obnoxious if you give them the opportunity. IOW, I like them. :-)
