I am not very good with little song birds. I think it's some kind of sparrow or warbler (Lucy's) maybe? If Anyone has a good idea please chime in. Thanks,
smac

Hello Smac

I may be wrong but that is a Chipping Sparrow. It looks exactly like the ones we have so many of here in Ga. The chestnut capped head and the black line all the way from the bill thru the eye to the ear. Its hard to see it from the bill to the eye but I think it is there.

I don't have my bird books up by the computer, so this is from memory.

The Chipping sparrows we get up here in Ma have much more distinct head markings (the chestnut cap houston mentioned) than this one does. But that could be seasonal.

I'll see what I can do tomorrow with a bird book to help me.

I don't know what kind of bird it is but it's a darned good photograph of whatever it is. Nice job on this one smac.

I am not sure but I think I've narrowed it down to a Golden-Crowned Sparrow. Let me know if you agree.

I believe that I agree with smac. The wing bars, pink legs, grayish bill, gray-brown chest, plain gray head, and the "hint" of gold in the fore-crown all point me in that direction.

The other possibilities, and these are all 1st winter birds that are similar like this, would be Chipping Sparrow and White-crowned Sparrow. The White-crowned Sparrow would have a pinkish-orange bill. The Chipping Sparrow would have more distinctive stripes on the head.

Nice pictures, btw.

Good pics. As far as ID, I'll defer to the others since most of these LBJ's
give me problems with ID.
