After a really big rainstorm today we went to our local park, and among all the mallards I found this Mandarin Duck. Originally I thought it was a Wood Duck, but in checking my book, it is not. I have not seen one of these here before, hopefully I can get back tomorrow when the lighting will be a little better. He sure was a colorful little guy.

What a fabulous looking creature, I hope you get more tomorrow. It looks like a rubber toy it's so colorful and smooth.

Thanks for your comments - I have already learned a lot from everyone here and hope to keep improving. Here is another shot of that duck which gives a little more detail as he is out of the water. Hope the sun is out tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for your comments - I thought this was kind of a rare occurrence here in HB, but found out this morning that this guy is a resident in our Central Park. So now I have to go out and track him down again and see if I can get some different shots. In all the years I have been there I have never seen him, but then maybe I wasn't looking.

I took this with my FZ10 and my new Canon TL55 teleconverter, so was pretty pleased with the results so far. Next time for sure a tripod or at least monopod!
