Hmmm where to start... Lets start with late summer shots :

This is my first Heron session, I crawled and crawled just to get close enough to him/her. The bird was about 60 feet from where I was. On my knee on the ground for possibly 300 feet, I didn't want the Heron to spot me, would have flown away. Taken in the wild, these birds in that area are not used to human presence. Then the challenge was to get the best exposure possible with a sun setting behind him/her. I threw everything I know in post-processing to finally get this photo.

Portrait of a Blue Jay :

Summer coating Goldfinch, little CrabApple on top :

A little female Housefinch, she was looking for the male me believe

Female Northern Cardinal :

We're now in late fall -

My favorite bird, Black Capped Chikedee : story behind this. I was taking Macro shots of a maple tree dripping its sweet water, perched up near a branch. And all of a suddon, these little Chikedee not minding my presence came to take a sip, LOL

The next day, I went with my Bigma and took some handheld shots of them, they were as close as 2 feet from me, this one was prolly 4 from me. Taken at 300mm

Another shot, goingfor the sip:

From another sequence, he was looking for dripping water :

Dark Eye Junco, always hiding, always in the shades :

Pine Siskin, bathing under sunrays :

Winter stuff now -

Pileated Woodpecker - in the shade unfortunatly :

Close encounter with a Female Common Redpoll, cloudy and dark outside, used a high shutter speed with fill flash :

A Blue Jay wacking at his mates :

Finally, started doing some birds in flight. Chose Mallard, they are quite in large number on the river near home :

Female deploying her wings :

Male in flight :

Female in flight :

That's all for now folks :-)

Cheers everyone !

Wow all beautiful shots, I have to say that the chickadee and the flight shots would be my favorites.

Haha - Eric CAN goes away for 4 months, comes back, and shows us all up!

Superlative stuff, Eric. Missed your presence up here - don't be a stranger!

The GBH is great as the quality of light and the highlighting makes this a bit different from the normal shot. Besides, you had to work really hard to get this shot so it's worth more than the typical shot.

I've seen the Bluejay before and it doesn't bore me to see it again. The detail along with the reflection in its eye is something else.

What else can I say? They are all gorgeous. You used fill flash on that pileated - it's what made the bg so dark, right? The redpoll, hmmm.

You ought to look at the pictures Norm has been posting. He's been concentrating on motion shots too and he's gotten some great results.

Thank you Kenny, been doing birdies for the past year now. It's really fun, but I miss time doing so lately. If I'm off the weather is poor (like today, yesterday). If I work, it's nice out there :blah:

Cheers !
