Dunlins hiding in the marsh

These three images are actually related and taken within a few minutes of each other.

The Dunlins are common on the beaches of Brooklyn, even in the Winter. They are normally a happy go lucky lot, and in Winter you never actually see them in the water. They're not stupid and they never joined the Polar Bear club.

Suddenly, I no longer saw them on my favorite beach. One day, there he was - The Peregrine Falcon, who makes his living eating birds. He was new to this beach. And now the explanation of where the Dunlins were became apparent. I looked around and sure enough, they were hiding in the bitter cold waters of the marine pond, only a hundreed yards from where the Falcon was sitting.

They actually LOOK frightened, and this is Winter, one of the shots actually has small pieces of ice in the water.
