These photos are of a Black Kite, a common raptor found in Japan. They eat a combination of fish, snakes and other reptiles/amphibians, and carrion. On my way home from walking Sandy in the mountain today I saw this one in a farmer's field above my house, apparently eating something (natural fertilizer?) the farmer had put out. Luckly, my dog Sandy didn't see it (she was behind an obstacle from the bird), so I was able to make her sit and stay while I took photos. The birds are pretty tame around here, so it saw me but didn't feel threatened.
I realize the photos aren't great, and they serve more as naturalistic than photographic interest, I suppose; I couldn't get any closer while trying to control my dog, so I made out where I was. I hand-held the Oly C-755 at full zoom, using ISO 200. These are all cropped from the original images as well, and manipulated for contrast and color in PSP.
