A Lilac Breasted Roller, a very beautiful bird with a very raucous ugly call

A Waterbuck [quite a smelly creature, apparantly it has glands in the skin which exude this smell to ward off crocodiles as they spend a lot of their time in or near water]

Great shots. I especially like the first one. I have never seen a bird like that.

Two things struck me in this post, the first being the beauty of the Lilac Breasted Roller, and the second being the knowledge about the waterbuck odor. Now my life's ambition is to smell a waterbuck. ...is that healthy? Great stuff, Jake. The other two, of course, are very well composed and I love the maternal impressions in the elephant shot. The Horn-bill shot is from a perfectly hilarious perspective, and I'm sure that was your intention. Color seems a touch off in that one, though. The others are all superb. Fun post.

Some great pics! Great subjects and all really well conceived and framed.

That bird looks like it flew into a finger painting set.
