It was a really beautiful, sunny day today, so I bagged work at noon and
headed out to Bald eagle Lake (sorry no Bald Eagles there). Since it is primarily
for flood control and recreation in the summer, it was drawn down to a low level.
There were Canada geese, Mute Swans, Mergansers. Unfortunately since the lake
was low, it was about 200-300 yards to the water and wide open. I tried to
slowly move in. But they all took off. I think I managed to get some half
descent in flight shots. Here they are:

20D, 100-400L @ 400, ISO 200
all shots @ f/8, SS 1/800 sec

Great shooting with that new camera, woodmeister. These birds are fun to photograph and soon they'll be getting back here to their homeland :-)

Your color is accurate and detail in the birds is very nice. Looks to me like you had a good shutter speed to catch these. I image a lot more will be flying by in the next few weeks and months.

Great shots woodmeister, your depth of field is great too, I find most times with a flock of birds that only some are in focus [largest aperture available to get maximum shutter speed], however, these are spot on, well done!! I enjoy the third one with the 3 birds.

Err.. BTW, did you throw that stick at the geese to get them to fly??

These are great Woodmeister. Looks like you had it planned out just right. All of the geese are in focus and I was supprised to see that you were shooting at f8. I would have thought it would have taken at least f11 to do that. No use trying to pick a favorite. They're all good.

Wow Wood, great job. I really like the large flock shots, wonderful freeze action as well as detail. Good on you.
