Saturday was a really strange day. I had gone to this spot and as I got to where I
was going to park, there were some juncos and as usual, they hightailed it
into the bushes. It was really a nice day so I hiked a short loop to see if I
could spot anything. Didn't see anything . But, when I got back to the truck
There were the juncos feeding right next to the truck. I tried to sneak back
and of course, poof, off into the bushes. It was just a nice day, so I hung
out, just leaning against the truck. Then all of a sudden, these guys started
hopping out on the branches, right next to me, like 6 to 10 feet away. Then
they would hop down on the ground feeding right in front of me. Along with
these guys were the sparrow in my other post, tree sparrows did the same thing,
and nuthatches came in to the branches right next to me. It was really
special having all these little guys buzzing around next to me, and not
have to hide or stalk. Anyway, here's some photos of the juncos.

20D, 100-400L @ 400, ISO 400, f/8

SS 1/1000 sec

Since resizing the photo for web display really didn't do it justice, I've added
a tight crop of the head

Then there was this guy, SS 1/400 sec
"Hurry up and take my picture, or I'll fly off!!"

And finally this guy,
"I think I am just so darn cute!!"

Yes, I agree. I have some pics of Juncos but none are any where close to as good as these. Great exposures and the detail is awesome. Good job!

Great shots woodmeister, those are pretty birds. A few others in forum have gotten some excellent photos of this particular species and I really like it's appearance. Hopefully someday one will get lost and wander up my way.

Thanks everyone for checking out the photos and your comments. These
could probably be the last photos I'll be getting of these guys, as it won't be
long 'til they start heading north.
