On my way home from looking for waterfowl a pretty Bluebird landed on a fence post so I spent the next half hour or so following it around trying to get some decent shots. It was the highlight of my afternoon.

This bird was very predictable in it's behavior so I could take an educated guess as to where it was going to land next. It would leap from a post, go to the ground and find some grub, then leap up to the next post. I took this one shot after realizing the moves and it decided to make an exit for good.

Man, do you have one pretty bluebird. And I really, really like the way you captured it, background and all. It's lighter than the ones down here. The eastern blue bird is very pretty also but is darker blue with an orangegish looking breast.

I just got thru ordering a 100-400L IS. Should have it before next weekend.

Cheers

That is just an awesome capture, I've never seen one this color. As already stated we only get to see the darker ones here. Thanks for sharing this little beauty.

Sorry, I forgot everything you said after reading about the 100-400 IS. You are in for a real treat there Houson. Have fun, and I look forward to seeing some fresh posts!

Thanks Tomsch, the Mountain Bluebird here is on it's way up farther north I believe so I was lucky to have one land near where my car was driving on the country road. From time to time these things happen, and it sure is nice when they do.

Nice shots Norm. I like the third one because of the really cute pose. The
fanning and genaral appearance of the fence post also adds a nice
rustic quality to the photo. Can't wait for the mountain blues to start showing
up here. They're on my must get list for this year, which is quite lengthy.

Really nice shots.

I likethe first and the lastthe best.

You really caught the action nicely in the last photo. Looks like he was coming in for a a landing at warp.

I got some more waxwing shots today, robins, jays, chickadees and heron. I wasn't really happy with any of them so will try to get some better stuff tomorrow.
