I didn't get close, these fellows are very shy and depart as soon as they notice you. This was shot with a 300mm plus a 1.4 ext. This also a crop to eleminate some othe birds in the BG.

They never look real either!

I always feel that someone went and bought a porcelin duck and then stuck it in the water...

Great shot Tomsch. I'm still waiting around for my first Wood Duck. Hope it turns out as good as this one.

Norm, I have quite a few Wood Duck shots but my admiration for them is renewed every time I push the shutter release. They are the most unique bird we have here. That is the beauty of this site Steve provides for us, When you share a Mountain Blue Bird or we get to see a Fairy Wren from downunder we all get our small horizons expanded. What an awesome Techno age we live in.
