I got to watch this guy take a bath in the water (that blue in the background) and then it flew over and sat on this stone. Just stood there while I crept close and closer through the mud. But he didn't care.

I like the detail and the lovely background on this one. The light isn't bad either.

Camera: 20D 600mm f4 +1.4TC @f5.6 1/1000 ISO 200
PhotoShop: Very little, actually. Touch of selective lightening, crop, reduce, sharpen.

I tried to enhance the contrast but about a half hour at it I gave up. I just prefered it like this!

This is a beauty, eric, my kind of photograph. Very mood evoking and technically perfect. Love it.

Really wonderful shot eric. I especially like the background. The gradient
from the tan color to the blue, with the transition zone centered on the bird
pulls the eye in nice to the subject.

I'm glad you all liked it. Since I know you all take equally good pictures, it means a lot to get complements from you all.

bobbyz, I agree. This is a weird perch. I've never seen one do this before or since. I can't believe it was hunting... maybe it felt save 'cause the rock is surrounded by water?

I might as well join the chorus... (I'm that impressed)

This is really a nice shot, I do believe that no one used the word "evocative."

A real winner!

A very beautiful photo Eric. So peaceful looking. Looks like the bird is enjoying his view as much as you were enjoying your view of him. Really nice.
