By coincidence, like dennis, I ran across a snapping turtle as well. Spotted
this guy crossing an old logging road while I was out in the woods. Later,
I also got a photo of a couple salamaners in a small pond.

All shots 20D, ISO 400, 100-400L

First, the photos of the snapping turtle. All these are full frame
105mm, f/6.3, 1/400sec

130mm, f/6.3, 1/400sec

360mm, f/6.3, 1/400sec

400mm, f/6.3, 1/400sec

Here is the salamander shot. Was using the 1.4X SP on this one. Full frame
in vertical, just cropped out the sides. Numbers include converter.
511mm, f/9, 1/100sec

eewwwwwwwww!! Nasty looking aren't they! I haven't seen one in years and don't care if I do again! I hope you were using your zoom on this! They realy do snap, and it hurts!

I like the side view the best.

Great set of captures, more than most of us will ever see. That lighting was perfect for these shots. Great find and capture.

woodmeister, koppykat!!!!!:blah: nice pics!! i like the frontal view best. though it needs a bit more depth. i can never get frontals correct. this is definitely egg laying season for turtles. looks like a bumper crop this year!!!

Wow, I love those turtle shots, reminds meof some world war battle tank with a head. The dishevelled appearance, raggedness, dripping dirt, tired eyes, and color really adds a neat dimension to these shots. I envision a huge blown up shot of that turtle's face on a wall.
