Here are a few shots of the 300 IS with 1.4x extender tracking common gulls in flight.

Wow that lens is really working for you. The focus looks perfect on those in flight shots.

That second shot is just picture perfect, the exposure and focus are spot on.

Yah, have to agree. Looks like your new lens/camera combo is working flawlessly.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. The lens seems to be doing what it's supposed to do, which is great. It's still far short of the Bigma in color saturation, distance, and versatility, but it will serve the purpose that I wanted it for, closer hand-held shots in low light on grey days and at other times where light is being rationed out.

Thanks, bobby, this lens seems to be tracking better than expected with a 1.4x extender, so I'm quite pleased so far. It was nice to be able to actually test the lens in store before purchasing it. It cost more than a second hand one from FM but at least I know it's history (none), and could test it for comparison against my 400/5.6 in the store and outside a bit too.

As usual Norm, your in flight shots are excellent. Now that you have had this
lens for a while, how does the 300,1.4X combo compare to your 400,5.6?
