Yesterday was pretty much a wildflower and bug shooting day for me (The birds were
either high up in trees or staying in bushes). Hope you enjoy the photos.

All shots 20D, 100-400L, ISO 400

365mm, f/8, 1/1000sec

400mm, f/11, 1/320sec

I was centered on the butterfly on this shot, but when I got home and downloaded the
pic, I saw the little bee buzzing in, so I cropped accordingly.
400mm, f/6.3, 1/500sec

As an addition, got this shot of a bumblebee. This one I shot using the kit lens.
55mm, f/14, 1/250sec

Wonderful. I love photographing insects. It can be very frustrating, but you nailed these. The bee flying in is icing on the cake. Woody

Lovely shots, wm, and that kit lens of yours seems to work nicely. You are getting some great macros with the 100-400. Are you using any extension tubes? Nice job.

REALLY great shots woody !! That combo of 20D and 100-400 is quite versatile, and with your skills added to it, you have produced some marvellous stuff !!

Thanks everyone for checking out the photos and for your comments. I really
appreciate it.

Norm - The kit lens, my copy anyway, works really well as as a close up lens. I use
it for shots like the bee and for all my wildflower shots. As a landscape lens though,
it is pretty mediocre (have the 17-40L for those.) No extension tubes yet, but am
considering getting some so I can get a little closer. Not sure which ones to get.
Canon's seem pretty pricey for what an extension tube actually does, but not sure what
other brands would be good.
