While watching the Black Capped Night Heron stalk HIS Muskrat, out of the corner of my eye I saw this Great White Egret catch his. I wound up missing the stikes of both birds... :?:

The Heron was about 125 feet away, and the Egret another 200 feet past him.

This was a very cloudy, although clear day. I was very fortunate that the sun made an effort, even if unsuccesful to come out - I was able to shoot at 400 for all but the first shot, which was at 200.

Missing is a number of blurred shots at 200, in which the Egret, unlike the Heron, actually beat the Muskrat to death before swallowing it. The Heron flew off with his Muskrat, but this Egret was taking no chances.

The above image was taken five minutes later, and is not really part of the sequence, unless you consider an audible burp, as the finale... :?:
