Hubby and I were up late last night watching the shuttle launch on TV. I said to hubby, "that bird on top of the tower is not moving". It looked like some kind of hawk or eagle and circled the nose quite a few times and then sat on the tower. I guess it could have had a nest being as no shuttles have moved for sometime. I gathered it would get roasted on the launch. Anyway I noticed this on our news page today

Julie, I heard that something flaked off the unit but nothing about birds. Put's a whole new perspective on, the eagle has landed. Seriously, though, I hope nothing tragic happened to any of our feathered friends.

i can't imagine a bird sitting there once the first ignition sequence started. the noise and vibration would undoubtedly send any wild creature within half a mile scurrying for cover!

Yeah we saw the shadow of one of them fly off, but that is the bird in the shot I saw, pretty sure of it. and the photo is from NASA
