Beautiful shot of this interesting bird. Why do you say he's "very hungry?" If he did eat that needle, it was probably for medicinal reasons... :lol:

Of course if he was eating a lot of needles, well, hmm?

I like this shot. Catbirds are tough to get out in the open very often, at least in my experience - similar to towhees in that respect.

BTW, what is that cord doing wrapped around the branch and snaking its way up?

Oh my God, I dodn't notice it was a Mantis! ALl I saw was a pine leaf....

Sure isn't the fault of the photograph - he's sharp!

nice shot, bmullen. tough bird to get. yeah, it is too bad about the mantis. geoffs, the cord looks like a type of vine to me.

Thanks all. Geoffs, I don't know what that "cord" is. Maybe it is a vine. When I took this shot I didn't see the mantis. It was taken with atelephoto equivalencyof about 650 mm. It was an interesting surprise when I got home and viewed it on the computer.

Congratulations on a very unique photo, mullen. I'd bet you couldn't count on one hand the number of catbird eating mantis shots that are around.
