These are a selection takenduring our last trip to the Kruger National Park [hard to believe that a year has flown so fast - don't know what time is doing on the other side of the planet, but I think here we're skipping every alternate minute]

These are perhaps to whet my own appetite as we will be returning there in 12 days time for a 17 day stay - total paradise if you're a nature/photography lover. These were taken with a Panasonic FZ10 which did a pretty good job [apart from the slow focus], and I'm hoping to get some "action" shots this time around with the 20D. I was telling someone earlier that with the FZ10, the only equipment needed was the camera, a spare battery and SD card, now it's bags and cases of "stuff", laptop, DVD writer andboxesof DVD's, [should perhaps take a second vehicle for the stuff !!]

Anyway, some pics ....

#3 - A Greater Painted Snipe - Rather a scarce bird, so it is quite a treat to be able to have captuired him [this is a "him", the females are better looking, unusual in nature]

A Giant Kingfisher - quite a large bird, a little bigger than a feral pigeon

They were having great fun jumping up and around this sign "post", a real treat to watch

Really nice shots - each and every one

I do have one complaint:

"A Giant Kingfisher - quite a large bird, a little bigger than a feral pigeon"

So? How big is a "feral pigion?"

Sorry Dave.I used the feral pigeon thing cause I thought everyone knows a feral pigeon- the pigeon that flys around cities and parks and waterfronts, that people buy corn and bread to feed them in parks, they also race them,I think. [Somewhere in between a chicken and a sparrow]:?:?:?

With beautiful picture such as your, you can say anything you want.

And actually thinking about it "feral" just means gone wild. So whereas I would have said pigion, the real answer should be Rock Dove...

But this also means he's about the size of our "Kingfisher."
