I have previously posted some images of this bird. At that time I hadn't figured out what it was. It's an immature Spotted Sandpiper, just short of getting his spots. The feet have already turned yellow, and there is a hint of yellow in the beak. Surely the most elegant of the smaller Sandpiper crew...

Very nice Dave and interesting info. I think I might have spotted two of them the other day out at my favorite egret spot. I noticed that one of them bobed his head up and down while walking but the other one didn't. Any idea why!!!!

I've seen Spotted Sandpipers before, even have some nice pictures, but never an immature one, and certainly not an immature one, just short of changing colors. I've seen this guy twice, on one occasion he did a lot of bobbing and five days before, he didn't. So, I can only speculate: Too much to drink, marital problems, youth rebellion against forced bobbing? Indeed the lack of bobbing was one of the reasons I was in doubt about the bird...
